Lunch at 271 West
A decade ago when I worked in an office, going out for lunch was something I did at least once a week, often more. But now that I work from my home office most of the time and now that I am a full-time Realtor with a different kind of schedule, going out for lunch with clients or colleagues is a rare occurrence for me.
Having preambled all that, because my colleague Daniel took care of things while I was away in Taiwan amongst the surfers, the night market shoppers, the mountain monkeys and the barking deer, I wanted to take him out for lunch and to a place that neither of us had been to before.
I went online and found that the restaurant scene has improved a great deal since I worked in downtown Kitchener a decade ago.
I also found a place that neither of us had visited — 271 West — a pasta restaurant with a whole lot more.
271 West Restaurant
A quick look at their online menu shows that things are reasonably priced and made fresh on site from local suppliers. Looks good.
It is good. (Spoiler alert)
I made reservations online – right from their reservations widget. (I wasn’t sure is was a widget at first.) I got an email back within 20 minutes with a confirmation for 1pm.
I’m glad I made reservations because the noon rush was just finishing up and every table but two was taken.
I had the special, which was a chicken and bacon fettucinni. Recommended, as is 271 West restaurant.
If you are driving there, as I was, there is free two-hour street parking (which was easy to find) or a lot under city hall and another just a little south of there.
Finally, I thought our server was really great. I didn’t expect his sarcastic humour but once I realized that that was what we were doing I was all in.
Here is a link to their website.
